They wave the flag, they sound the drums,            They call it honor, call it thrilling,
They tell us from where the danger comes.            While military contractors send out the billing.
A talking head is always willing                     Another missile, another town,
To sell the fear and hate they're instilling.        Another body in the ground.

They’re making a killing,                            An “alliance of the willing,”
Making a killing,                                    With taxpayers to pay the billing.
Selling the weapons while the blood keeps spilling.  A brand-new enemy fills the screen,
Talking heads talking, lobbyists shilling,           Painted savage, cruel, obscene.
The bombs keep falling—
They’re making a killing.

There’s money in the fear they’re instilling,        They’re making a killing,
Money in the oil drilling.                           Making a killing,
Rebuild the tanks, replace the planes—               Selling the weapons while the blood keeps spilling.
Every war means record gains.                        Talking heads talking, lobbyists shilling,
                                                     The bombs keep falling—
                                                     They’re making a killing.

Somebody loses an arm or a son,                      They’re making a killing,
Somebody’s stock price starts to run.                Making a killing,
Somebody sleeps in a refugee line,                   Counting profits while the graves keep filling.
Somebody says, “The quarterly profits look fine.”    Keep us afraid, keep the hatred simmering,
                                                     War is a business—
                                                     And the business is thrilling!
They call it defense.
They say it's for freedom.
But just follow the money
And see who's making a killing.
