The U.S. spends over a trillion dollars each year on militarism: about $800 billion for the Pentagon, and hundreds of billions for the Department of Energy, the Department of Veterans Affairs. and interest on war-related debt. The U.S wasted over $8 trillion -- and killed millions of people -- in disastrous wars since 9/11. It continues to fund poorly functioning weapons systems and maintains about 800 overseas military bases. It is waging a proxy war with Russia that it provoked, despite warnings from diplomats, and is ramping up for war with China. But instead of lowering military spending, Republicans in Congress want to cut green energy investments, funding for the IRS, and the social safety net. They're in league with the devil. Alas, on militarism, the Democrats aren't so different.
